Job Summary:

The Sr Business Systems Engineer – Corporate will be a key member of the Corporate Shared Technology Data Engineering team. This individual will serve as a strategic partner and technical expert, responsible for the design, development, enhancement, integration, maintenance and support of core business and financial systems- primarily focusing on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O), Paychex, ETL pipelines, API integrations and Power BI reporting. This role involves close collaboration with stakeholders to analyze requirements, identify optimization opportunities, develop solutions and ensure system availability and performance. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical foundation in system integration, data movement and application development along with deep experience in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and Paychex.

Success in this role requires the ability to work cross-functionally with finance, HR and IT teams; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; a solid understanding of financial business processes and systems; and the ability to identify and implement automation and continuous improvement opportunities through modern technology solutions.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA – hybrid

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of business-critical applications and system integrations.
  • Participate in the full systems development lifecycle from requirements through deployment and support.
  • Work with Business owners to define requirements, and configure and customize systems to maximize efficiency.
  • Design, implement and optimize system interfaces, APIs and integration layers across internal and external platforms, ensuring secure and efficient data transfer.
  • Implement third-party tools and products in support of financial systems, including applying patches and upgrades.
  • Be the technical subject matter expert and administrator for financial reporting systems as needed and provide training and support to users.
  • Lead the build, monitor and troubleshoot ETL processes and integrations using modern tools and protocols (ex: REST, JSON, SFTP, SQL, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain data ETL pipelines between systems using tools such as Azure Data Factory, SSIS, and/or custom development using Python and SQL.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures and scripts.
  • Design and maintain advanced dashboards and reports using PowerBI, by understanding data required and integrating data from multiple sources.
  • Partner with business analysts, finance teams and project managers to translate complex functional requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Partner with source systems providing data to financial systems and business subject matter experts to understand changes impacting financial systems and/or processes.
  • Be the technical liaison to internal technology teams and 3rd party vendors in support of financial systems.
  • Analyze business processes and system workflows to identify areas for improvement and automation and drive automation initiatives to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.
  • Ensure data integrity across systems and platforms through audits and reconciliation.
  • Maintain documentation of system architecture, integration flows, processes, workflows, and technical configurations.
  • Perform root cause analysis, system troubleshooting, and performance tuning across application and infrastructure layers, leveraging advanced technical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex issues, meet customer requirements and translate them into actionable product features.
  • Mentor junior analysts and developers by sharing technical expertise and best practices.
  • Continually deliver results that drive efficiencies and support leadership decision-making.
  • Participate in acquisition due diligence for financial systems by identifying cost integration requirements, and recommending solutions to accommodate growth and reduce total cost of ownership.
  • Ability to occasionally work after hours as needed for code deployments.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • 7+ years of related experience preferably in medium to large company
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems or computer science
  • Required:
    • 7 years’ experience as a Systems Engineer or similar technical role required.
    • Experience with general ledger and accounting systems required.
    • Experience in application engineering, including design, testing and troubleshooting.
    • Exceptional collaboration, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate technical challenges and solutions to both technical and business teams.
    • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O).
    • Demonstrated experience with ETL tools and APIs.
    • Advanced use of the MS Power Platform tools (Power BI, Power Automate, etc) and strong command of SQL, MS SQL.
    • Proficiency in SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS and stored procedures, APIs and web services, Power BI development and data modeling, ETL frameworks and data pipelines, .NET object-oriented programming language.
    • Solid understanding of database design, data integrity and optimization techniques.
    • Highly organized with the ability to coordinate project tasks.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills.
    • Experience with business intelligence and automation tools.
    • Experience with cloud software.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with Paychex and Concur.
    • Experience with Azure services and DevOps tools.
    • Fundamental knowledge of project management methodologies and lifecycle.
